10 Ways to Stay Positive During Hard Times and Adversity
Adversity hits us all. There’s not a person on Earth who hasn’t faced moments of struggle, heartbreak, or uncertainty. And sometimes, no matter how hard you pray or how strong your faith is, life still takes you through the storm. You can do everything “right” and still find yourself in a waiting season — praying, hoping, and wondering when your blessing will come.
In those moments, it’s easy to spiral into negative thinking, to question yourself, or even to feel forgotten by God. We’ve all been there. But here’s the truth: what you speak and what you think are creating your reality. Even when it hurts, staying positive keeps you aligned with divine timing and open to God’s blessings.
That doesn’t mean you should suppress your emotions. I follow what I call the 90 Percent Rule — 90% of the time, I focus on positivity, faith, and gratitude. The other 10%? I give myself permission to cry, to feel, to release the weight of what I’m carrying. Because we’re human. You can’t heal what you don’t feel. But after that 10%, you pick yourself back up, straighten your crown, and remind yourself: God is still in control.
If you can withstand adversity, you’ll come out the other side a battle-tested warrior — stronger, wiser, and more equipped for the blessings ahead. The higher the level, the greater the battles. But remember: you are never fighting alone. God is within you and around you, and your angels are standing guard over every situation.
Here are 10 ways to stay positive in the face of adversity and keep your spirit aligned with light, no matter how dark life feels.
1. Shift Your Perspective
When life gets tough, try to look at challenges through a spiritual lens. Every setback is actually a setup for something greater. God often hides blessings inside of obstacles — not to punish you, but to prepare you. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” ask, “What is this teaching me?” That shift alone will change how you walk through hard times.
2. Practice Gratitude Daily
Gratitude is your anchor when everything feels like it’s falling apart. No matter how heavy life gets, there’s always something to be thankful for — breath in your lungs, a roof over your head, someone who cares. Start each morning naming three things you’re grateful for. Gratitude lifts your vibration and keeps you connected to abundance instead of lack.
3. Surround Yourself with Positivity
Your environment plays a big role in your mindset. Protect your energy. Spend time with people who uplift you and speak life into your dreams. Listen to music, podcasts, or affirmations that remind you of your power. The right energy around you can keep your faith strong even when your circumstances are shaky.
4. Speak Life Over Yourself
Your words carry power — life and death are in the tongue. When adversity hits, it’s easy to speak fear, doubt, or negativity, but that only feeds the problem. Instead, speak life. Say, “I am strong. I am guided. I am victorious.” Affirm your faith even when your reality hasn’t caught up yet. Eventually, your words will shape your world.
5. Trust God’s Timing
Divine timing is real. Sometimes the wait feels endless, but remember — delays are not denials. God sees what you can’t, and He knows when you’re ready for what you’ve been praying for. Keep trusting that everything is unfolding exactly as it should, even when it doesn’t look like it.
6. Control What You Can, Release What You Can’t
Worrying about things outside your control only drains your energy. Focus on what’s within your power — your effort, your mindset, your faith — and surrender the rest to God. When you release control, you make space for miracles.
7. Keep Moving Forward
Even the smallest step forward keeps you from getting stuck. Progress doesn’t always look big — sometimes it’s just showing up, saying a prayer, or getting out of bed when your heart is heavy. Movement creates momentum, and momentum builds strength.
8. Nourish Your Mind, Body, and Spirit
You can’t stay positive if you’re running on empty. Feed your soul with things that restore you — prayer, journaling, meditation, exercise, nature, rest. The more you pour into yourself, the stronger your inner light becomes.
9. Remember Past Victories
Look back at the times you made it through before. Remember when you thought it was over, but somehow, you survived? That same God that brought you out then will bring you out again. Your past victories are proof of your resilience and His faithfulness.
10. Visualize a Better Future
Don’t get trapped in the current moment. Close your eyes and visualize yourself healed, successful, and thriving. Feel what it’s like to be free and at peace. Visualization is faith in motion — it helps your mind see beyond the storm and align with the blessings ahead.
Adversity doesn’t define you — it refines you. It strengthens your faith, builds your character, and prepares you for everything you prayed for. Staying positive isn’t about pretending everything’s perfect; it’s about believing that everything will work out for your good.
So when life gets heavy, remind yourself: you are not alone, you are not forgotten, and you are stronger than you think. Keep your faith, protect your energy, and speak life over every situation.
You are a spiritual warrior — and with God by your side, no battle is too big.
